CSS Developer tool - please quoteposted on 23/6/2008We need a simple tool to help our CSS developers replace style sheets and possibly images on a site they are looking at, such as http://sampleurl.test.venda.com The tool needs be easily turned on or off, but when set to on the CSS developer should not see the web page using the style sheets referenced on the site, but actually using their own local versions. If they don’t have them named correctly or those style sheets have incomplete or incorrect styles then the site should not display correctly – the local style sheets are not intended to be additional to those on the site normally. Note: no local files should be cached by the tool as the CSS developer will be frequently refreshing the site. Browser caching should be unaffected and work as usual. As mentioned before they’ll also want to be able to toggle the utility on and off. Cross browser - the utility needs to work with whatever browser the user is running (eg. Opera, Firefox, Safari, IE). Cross platform – the utility must work on Windows, but preferably should also work on Mac. Please specify in your quote if you are catering for this. The utility also needs to be able to work for both http and https since we’ll be using it on sites with secure areas. Because more than one style sheet will be referenced on the site, and because the CSS developer may be working on more than one site at a time, they will need a way to list the directories they want to override. This doesn’t necessarily need to be a GUI but could be a text file (as we can reasonably expect the CSS developer to be comfortable with editing text files). How does the CSS developer map the live CSS directory to the replacement directory stored on their local machine? That’s for you to define, but as an example using the above URL they might want to map the following: Map http://generic.test.venda.com/content/ebiz/acetest/resources/css/ To C:antgeneric esourcescss Map http://anothersite.test.venda.com/content/ebiz/acetest/resources/css/ To D:Documents and SettingsawebsterMy Documentsanothersite esourcescss Note that although the CSS developer should be mapping directories the approach should also work with specific files and not affect whole directories, unless they are specified in a rule. Eg: Map http://just1file.test.venda.com/content/ebiz/acetest/resources/css/main.css To D:Documents and SettingsawebsterMy Documents just1file esourcescssmain.css We need this work as soon as possible and will be expecting completion within a 2 or 3 week timeframe (to be specified if and when your proposal is accepted) Clarifications • This tool should work on any site, not necessarily ones we own • The tool should work without us needing to install anything on our servers. In fact you should consider the CSS developer will not have access to the site they are styling • All config/setup needs to be handled entirely by the CSS developer • The CSS Developer should be able to work easily on more than one site at a time using the tool If this is your kind of thing please contact me with a quote and also convince me you have understood the requirements and have the track record to build this reliably and quickly. Thanks! We are no longer accepting applications for this project. |
