Unfortunately, Ubuntu Hardy didn't seem to recognise my monitor until
I "hacked" Xserver settings manually. So yes, it still happens.
Plus installing software isn't as easy as it may sound. One usually
gets outdated versions from debian/ubuntu repositories and manual
updates are needed.
